Melbourne hosted the 2024 Motors and Masterpieces show from 22 – 24 November at the Melbourne Showgrounds. There were more than 150 classic cars on display ranging from cars dating from the early part of the 20th century to the current day.
AMHF had a stand at the show selling new and second-hand books and prints by our artist in residence, Brian Caldersmith. The exposure the AMHF received to an audience largely unfamiliar with us was also invaluable. Our stand was well presented and enhanced by the display of the ex-Bill Paterson/Curly Brydon MG TC Special kindly supplied by its proud owner, Richard Townley.
As well as our stand, AMHF members, Geoff Piggott and Paul Newby, spoke on two panel sessions moderated by TV personality Glenn Ridge. Topics included our Economic Value Survey and the challenges faced by the classic car sector such as skill shortages, the loss of important heritage vehicles overseas and the need to attract younger people to take an interest in classic cars.
A core group of volunteers consisting of Geoff Piggott, Pete Eppel and Paul Rogerson welcomed visitors to our stand. They were ably assisted by volunteers John Ellacott, Alan Page and Paul Newby.
Overall, the quality of the cars on display at Motors and Masterpieces was amazing. It is hard to believe that so much exotic and cared for machinery exists in Australia and it is important that many of these cars remain here for future generations to enjoy.
The AMHF wishes to acknowledge its gratitude and thanks to Carlos Piteira and the organising team at Motors and Masterpieces for all their support and generosity in allowing the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation to participate in this significant event.
