AMHF volunteers at the HSRCA Spring Festival

Shamus Toomey · Sep 8, 2025 ·

Our very own AMHF volunteers at the HSRCA Spring Festival at One Raceway (Goulburn).

It was absolutely freezing for Practice on Friday. Snow was forecast but did not eventuate. Howling winds and periodic horizontal rain did. Saturday Qualifying and Racing was also very cold (4 degrees C until around lunchtime) but little or no rain. Sunday Racing was still relatively cold but beautiful clear skies with the sun shining.

Despite the weather, it was a great weekend. One Raceway is a fun circuit and great credit to the Shelley family who resurrected it, investing significant amounts after it was closed for a period due to environmental issues.

John Murn in his blue Decca Major was to be racing but was shifted into the regularity category by the scrutineers due to an out-of-date race suit. John did well in that category and also did a great job on race commentary over the weekend.

Geoff Piggott ran his British Racing Green MG ARA Special in Group L Racing whilst Eli Solomon from Singapore took over the wheel of Geoff’s car for Regularity. The car ran like a pocket-watch all weekend thanks to a recent engine freshen-up and dyno tuning by Superior Automotive gaining some 20% in power. The car covered some 70 laps over the weekend. Geoff progressively improved his previous lap times at the circuit by some 8 seconds over the weekend in Racing, whilst Eli in Regularity went progressively faster over the weekend, passing some more modern cars in the course of the events. Whilst not quite the aim of Regularity in performing regular lap times, Eli had a big smile on his face.

A number of other AMHF regulars attended and gave moral support at various times over the weekend including Alan Page crewing for John Murn, Andrew Kluver crewing for Geoff and Eli, Colin Piper, John Ellacott, Stephen Wells and Andrew Dodds.
