The AMHF is aggrieved by the passing of Terry Thompson, one of the giants in the classic and historic car scene in NSW and across Australia. His dedicated volunteering work over 40 years with clubs and government groups to assist and promote enthusiasts’ interest in their vehicles is unparalleled.

A board member of the ARDC for 18 years, the President and guiding force of the Council of Motor Clubs for 34 years, he was on the Government’s Vehicle Standards Working Group, the Road Safety Advisory Council and the Historic Classic Industry Working Group, a member of several car clubs and involved in historic motor racing.
His dedication rightly earned him the Medal of the Order of Australia.
As a valued Board Member and Ambassador of the AMHF, he was responsible for its establishment in the current premises at Sydney Motorsport Park. He will be more than missed – he leaves a vacuum.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Sharon, his family and the uncountable friends.
The funeral will be held at the Woronora Memorial Park and Crematorium, South Chapel, at 10am on Tuesday 13 January 2026. Rather than flowers, the family has requested a donation to the Cancer Assistance Network or The Liver Foundation.
