Copy Cat Ads: Part 7

Shamus Toomey · Nov 7, 2026 ·

by David Burrell – – –

I’m continuing my search through the AMHF’s collection of automotive brochures and magazine advertisements, and have found even more examples of Australian car companies and their advertising agencies reusing the content from overseas brochures and advertisements.

1964 PONTIAC

Here’s an example of a 1964 US Pontiac Grand Prix, above, being re-purposed into an Australian Parisienne.

Meanwhile, some artistic skill went into the conversion, below. The background of the US brochure was erased and the four-door hardtop became a pillared sedan

1965 CHEVROLET

It is a mystery why someone spent a lot of time converting the green US Impala, above, into a pillared Australian Bel Air, when the pillarless Impala was also sold in Australia.

There will be more in this series of copycat ads soon.
